Leave a legacy to your
community by planning a future gift to United Way.
Planned gifts are the best way to achieve your financial goals while promoting the
long-term social health of our community. Planned gifts will be directed to United
Ways Legacy Fund that has as its mission to anticipate future community needs
and create, develop and fund innovative solutions.
Will And Revocable Trust Bequests
Many donors who have supported the United Way of the Plains over
the years feel inclined to continue that support after death by leaving a bequest. If they
have been $1000 per year supporters, a $20,000 bequest will maintain the $1000 per year
gift level forever and will always have their names attached to it. A bequest of $50,000
will allow the donor to name the specific direction of the continued gift
childrens issues, homelessness, etc.
Any gift made from an estate or a revocable trust removes the asset from the estate for
estate tax purposes. (Always consult with competent counsel for tax advice.)
Charitable Gift Annuities
A Gift Annuity is an arrangement whereby a donor makes a gift but receives a lifetime
of income from the United Way. When the donor dies, the remaining capital reverts to the
Legacy Fund and the gift keeps providing benefits to those in need. It is an excellent
retirement supplement paying out at a generous income rate. There are also significant tax
advantages such as partial income tax deduction for the gift and partially tax free income
from the United Way. (Always consult with competent counsel for tax advice.)

Charitable Remainder Trusts
For larger capital transfers, a Charitable Remainder Trust provides broad flexibility
and excellent tax treatment. The donor makes the gift into the Trust of his or her own
design selecting the income rate he or she wants to receive. Like the Gift Annuity, the
income can be for one or two income beneficiaries, paying until the second beneficiary
dies. At that time, the remainder interest goes to the Legacy Fund to continue the good
works of the United Way. (Always consult with competent counsel for tax advice.) For
